WELCOME TO OUR WORLD
We love living at the bottom right-hand "corner" of Africa, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa's "Adventure Province", where you can go on safari and see the "Big Five" about an hour's drive from here, and never have to worry about the danger of Malaria. And we love living in the middle of Port Elizabeth, so centrally, that we're located on the cover map of the Port Elizabeth/East London Map Book.
That's our grand-daughter, top, left, on the beautiful beach at Cape Receife lighthouse, in the middle, elephants at Addo Elephant National Park and top right, the Alexandria Dune Fields - the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
Our World is full of amazing and wonderful People and Places: we love sharing them with you.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE 1 November 2011

Jane Wiles, the well-known artist from Bathurst, (a school friend of mine), is our guest in The Suite this week. Here you see her in the Dining Room, working on a watercolour painting inspired by a fistful of her beautiful photographs. The photo of the old house became her subject, but the setting is in her head – it will be a beach house when she’s finished with it.The ingenious painting box-cum-easel Jane is using was made for her in the 1960’s by her watercolour teacher Chink Ewan, a lecturer in History of Art at Rhodes University. Unlike most other similar boxes, which are light and easy to carry, this one is heavy, to make it wind-proof, for painting in the bush - which Jane loves to do.
Visit The Wiles Gallery: Main Kowie Road, Bathurst or phone Jane +27 (0)82 330 8671
